Did You Know?…
Where the very first Ice Cream Sundae came from? How it became a thing?
Well, apparently there’s three different theories surrounding the creation of the classic dessert! One of which features around Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
According to some historians back in the day, the name “sundae” came around from the Blue Laws.
Which at the time stated that ice cream sodas could not be sold on Sundays because they were to “frilly.” – Sound ridiculous? We thought so too.
Anyway, back in 1881 a customer asked the owner of Ed Berners’ Ice Cream Parlor located in Two Rivers for an ice cream soda on a Sunday.
After many requests Mr. Berners (the owner of the parlour) put ice cream in a dish and poured chocolate syrup on top. Chocolate syrup was only used for making flavoured ice cream sodas back then and not as a syrup, so this at the time was a new invention!
The customer loved the dish and after giving it a try for himself, Ed Berners began featuring “ice cream with syrup” in his shop.
Soon after, everybody in town wanted a taste!
And from then on, the ice cream sundae became a sensation in America and quickly spread across the globe! Since then the dessert has saw new and unique flavours, combinations and takes on the classic Sundae.
